Cure the fear and take action this Monday!

Have you ever sat back and thought “what is it that successful people do that's different?” I used to think that all the time. To me, it looks like they have more time to do the things they want, more time to enjoy life. But what did they do differently to achieve that?

Successful people take action!

What fears do you have that hold you back from taking action? There are numerous things that actually hold you back from the very actions which will bring you success. I know some of mine were;

  • Commission based job
  • Meeting targets
  • Meeting new people
  • Public speaking
  • Making phone calls
  • Being rejected

There may be so many different fears that cause us to choke stay right where we are. A while ago, while reading “The Compound Effect” By Darren Hardy, and I learnt that “action cures all fear.” The very nature of taking action cures the very fear that it appears to create.

For example, just after I left the Army, I used to be a recruitment consultant, a role that if I didn’t meet targets of placements my commission wouldn’t get paid. Towards the end of the quarter, I would really fear never making these targets. It all changed when I stuck a little-handwritten sign above my computer screen which read “action cures fear”. Whenever I would feel that fear, I just got to work, just picked up the phone and got to it. Sure enough, the placements came in.

Seeing the reasons you can do things and not the reasons you can’t is an important philosophy when curing fear. Your attitude towards the tasks ahead is so much more important than intelligence. It’s an amazing, self-disciplined and uplifting process when you see things for the reasons that can be accomplished and not the reasons they can’t.

We have all heard the comment “fake it until you make it” and to a degree, I really like that. Francesca, my wife, took it to another level and on her “empowering women” workshops she speaks about faking it until you become it. Really feeling the reasons you can do it, believing in your soul that you are more. It really drives you to take action, it really drives you to perform. I love to bite off more than I can chew, and then chew like hell!

Successful people know they can do better. They can look at their past and identify where they can do better, not get hung up on it, and push forward. Successful people ask “what can I do better?”. Which is such a beautiful empowering question, because it keeps you on the slight edge. It gives you the option to be fractionally better. So why not build that discipline and ask yourself today “what can I do better?”

So as you go through today, and then the week, what fears are holding you back? What areas can you do a little better in? Most of all, what action can you take to cure it, to step forward and be progressive?
